media centre tv in the UK

The tv access via media centre appears to be confined to Sky TV which requires a payment. Is this correct.?

Yes you need to have sky already or you can pay for an online version, but if you dont have it and have a very close friend or family member that does use there logon details and password
and youll be able to use it-think you can have three pcs linked to a sky account.

    Jamesyf,
You can watch Freeview in media center if your PC has a tuner installed. If your PC has not got 1 there are lots of USB tuners around.

    Hi there

Freeview in the UK works fine with a USB tuner -- I'm currently on contract in the UK (Manchester).

However Daytime TV isn't very good unless you like watching such "Classics" as "Wife Swap USA". -- Day Time TV the world over is probably rubbish.

The BBC channels and Sky News are OK of course.

Media center works fine with Hauppage USB TV tuners - for example 900-HVR --this also has a Composite input so you need the WINTV application supplied -- you can "Video send" a composite signal from a SKY box to a receiver and plug the composite input into the USB device.

That's my ONLY complaint with Media Center -- it doesn't have an AV input unless you get some type of weird remote --which seems a bit pointless if you are on the computer anyway.

The Media center TV guide is pretty good too.

    Enc pic.

    Cheers

    Jamesyf,
I've got an Hauppage USB TV tuner and Avermedia HD USB TV tuner and both work great. The HD 1 is wow, in fact just ordered another 1 for my grandson.

In a similar vein, I can also recommend TVCatchup via the plugin.
