also dont put the year in brackets as it can(MCM) overlook names and dates in brackets
lol, sorry again, but that's incorrect! That is in fact the perfect way to have it. Anything inside of ( ) will always be used as the (year) anything inside of [ ] [will be ignored]

Got MCM installed. Set it to scan my movies directory's. So far so good. It pulled the proper cover art for The Night Before Christmas and I added Shrek that it pulled that without any problems. I didn't have to clear the image cache. The Backdrop for Night Before Christmas works as well.

I think the over all fuctionality of MB is doing what I want it to do. With a little tweaking along the way this has turned out better than I had hoped for.

Thank you for all of your help. I think if it wasnt for DemonSeed's response to my first post I probably would have stayed with My movies. But I am glad that I made the switch.

glad you got everything sorted, i convinced most of my friends to use mediabrowser,
and they all feel the same, for a long time i was thinking i need to sort my movies out and ,i wish i could remember information ie pg ratings .then one day i saw a website with a book about setting up mediabrowser ,then i noticed there was a stickie here on 7f after that my collection has never looked better ,and even when i browse by year (occasionally) i have a set of oscar icons with the year on them
we just got a new laptop and ive been learning to set up network and accsess my movies, then i thought i would see if i could use mediabrowser with the network, so i installed MB on the lappy and went to configurator and set the movies file to the network and wow! it works.

I am glad that it works over the network. That was one of my main reason for finding a third party program to store meta data locally. So when I hook up my clients that they will all access the same meta data information. I am going to try and redo my server today with a fresh install and get everything reconfigure and setup my 1st client. I Also want to configure playstate as well. I show a link on the knownledge base that should allow me to do that.

For the network setup did you just map a network drive or are you using the UNC?

when i say network that is .. my homegroup.
then i aimed the configurator so it reads the same movie file on desktop , ive only set it up once so my knowledge depends on my recollection...unlucky!
but, i think when you click add in the config then there is a homegroup tab and then i added videos as that is where i store all my movies from the external. i have no movies on the lappy.
    good luck

My thought was to avoid using homegroups. I used it a few times and it would randomly disconnect. So I was going to setup just a standard "work" location network without the use of homegroups. Once I get things setup I will post something more regarding my setup. Thanks for the help.

NOTE TO SELF: When coping a folder / directory ensure that you did infact copy it and not just creat a shortcut to it on your thumb drive.....

So that is my dumb move of the week. Dont think i can top that one this week. I was making a (well I thought I was) backup of my download directory on my Server so that I could do a fresh install but I didn't loose my notes and downloads that I had aquired for this project(My install .exe's, all my notes, icons, ect). I honestly thought I had copied the directory but it seems that Windows only created a shortcut to the downloads directory on my thumb drive. I should have caught it. GO ME!!!! Well at least with a little time not all is lost. I will just have to search for everything again.

Figured I would share so I could brighten someone else's day.

    Couple questions.
1.) How easy does it uninstall, and how completely does it uninstall?
2.) Will it rewrite any of my media's information?
3.) Will it work on x64 or do I install to x86?
