Uninstall all codec related installations. remove Haali, FFDshow, Matroska splitter
unregister and remove any standalone codecs such as VSFilter.dll etc
    reboot your system
Install the Shark007 Win7codecs, browse your MKV files to get thumbed before the next steps

In the settings application, choose to use the suggested settings
On the SWAP TAB, choose to disable Windows Media Foundation

Now you will be on the correct path to enjoy your video content

yes. It is a fully comprehensive release covering ALL codec needs in Windows 7.
Be sure to uninstall anything codec related, such as haali, FFDshow etc., before installing it.

so far i can't get an .srt to work with .mp4. i believe all other codecs were uninstalled, and i went in as an admin and disabled windows media foundation as you advise.

For some MP4's you will need to disable the Microsoft Video decoder from the SWAP TAB
