Windows 7: tv tunner in media center

Interestingly enough, with standard W7 drivers from WU, I got the same error in WMC as well - but was watching TV no more than 5 minutes later with sound.

I have since upgraded to drivers for Vistax64 for my video cards, monitors, motherboard, sound and tuner. Still working....

I am now getting the same error 0x80240003 "error when attempting to install Playready" or words to that effect.

This is strange, I had it working before in this version of Windows 7 (6801), so why not now? I installed the latest ATI Catalyst drivers for the ATI 650 Pro Theater card.

Very strange indeed.

"Media Portal" turned out to be a flop, it is so error prone and seizes up at every opportunity and trying to get the EPG guide to load was impossible, not to mention one has to pay eventually to get the guide anyway.

Edit: On clicking "Next" it went ahead with the TV setup anyway.....LOL

It seems that it's just this "Playready" thingy, whatever that is, isn't available right now. From what I read on the web, that may be dead in any case.

Yup, driver update did the trick. Had to install them in compat mode with Vista RTM though.

Hello all... my media center doesn't work at all. The first time it worked great, then i closed it and win7 blue screened. Had to do a system restore as it trashed my explorer.exe file. Now media center crashes instantly as soon as I try to open it. Any suggestions? I want to get it working as I just bought a remote and was going to get a tuner card (also would like all of your opinions as to the best one --- do note I have an ATI vid card).

Thanks for any advice on fixing Media Center and/or suggesting tuner cards.

i dont know if this is relevant or not (most likely not since win is shipping with codecs out of the box) but have you tried a codec x64 pack
thats what i need to see my tv (had to disable the mpfmp from loading)
for me ffdshow was reliable than the standard vista tv codec....
just my two cents....

Media Center isn't much use without a TV Tuner card and you say you haven't got one yet. Once you have one, just make sure all the drivers for it, your video and audio, are the latest, if necessary install them in compatibility mode.

i have one it just that i wasnt supported in vista and now in win7....(was supported in XP MCE 2005 or 2002 i believe... )
and thats what i did...
i have taken it out the tv tuner (as media center tv is not that important feuture to have in machine...)
and W7 and vista...
and have inserted Server 2008
why you ask??
because they gave it away free...
(i mean to college students...)

yay 300!!

That is not true. I didn't buy the tuner yet because it wasn't a #1 priority in the new system and I wanted to make sure the one I ended up picking worked well with win7.

I use media center to watch movies and play music as well, its a nice interface. It isn't just TV.

But the point is I can not even open media center, so codec or no codec, it doesn't matter, it never even opens anymore!
