WMV Files Don't Run/Appear in Media Center (Windows 7)

Hello, none of my *.wmv files are visible from media center on my Windows 7 machine (for instance, in the Video Library region). They appear and run on Windows Media Player just fine (when opened from the file system), but for some reason aren't even visible from media center.. I never had this issue when running wmv files from Vista or Media Center 2005.

Just to further clarify, I have files of other types in the same directory that media center recognizes, like QuickTime format. Media center sees them and runs QuickTime from the directory fine. It just doesn't seem to see the WMV files.

Grateful for any replies. Thanks!

It sounds like your Media Center database is corrupt. Use FixWin to flush and rebuild it:

Thanks for the reply. However, I just now downloaded FixWin, ran the File Checker Utility, created a restore point, and ran "Flush and Rebuild Windows Media Center database", and the problem remains (still does not see the wmv files).

Any additional recommendations are greatly appreciated!

I'm still looking around for you, but people have suggested a temporary fix; view by date rather than by folder.

Changing the file extension to mp3 might help.

First of all, thanks for the response. I greatly appreciate the effort and time taken.

However, change to mp3 does not work (file does not show up). In other words, my media center does not honor/recognize the mp3 format either. It does the honor and run the mov (as I mentioned earlier, which is the QuickTime format). However, this renaming is an unsatisfactory work-around. I can play, stop, and pause with quicktime (mov), but cannot fast-forward/reverse. For my purposes, this make mov format unacceptable.

I really need to be able to fix this rather than use a workaround that does allow to do all the basics. I am so surprised others haven't encountered this or figured out a way to fix it. Oh well, I'm still looking forward to a solution. Thanks!
