I'm using that same Hauppauge 1800 in a HTPC running Windows 7 7057 32-bit and it works very well with MC. I believe the trick is to use the beta driver kit on the Hauppauge web site. It allows all three tuners (QAM, analog and FM) to operate simultaneously if you want. The regular driver is useless.

    Bye.

As noted, I am using 32-bit Windows 7 and it works well. I'm also using a pair of Hauppauge 1950 in another Windows 7 HTPC that work great, as well as a Hauppauge 950 in yet another Windows 7 HTPC - all 32-bit beta driver kit 4.8a.

    Bye.

I also have it working with the 1800 TV tuner using the beta drivers of the support site.

If you install the non-QAM driver first, sometimes the beta driver doesn't take. Look for a file hcwclear.exe on your install disk and run it. It will clear your registry of all 1800 entries. Then re-install the beta drivers.

It does not sound like a driver issue to me though. Driver issues usually effect finding the QAM tuner. If a ClearQAM tuner is showing up for you, the driver is probably fine. The next time you do a channel scan and it reports no channels found, go to Settings>TV>Guide> Edit Channels and look in there. If you see any digital channels there without a padlock next to them, those are your QAM channels. Check all the boxes without a padlock and ignore the ones with a padlock(they are encrypted) then Save. If you go to Live TV, all the channels you just checked should be there.

i used the default windows 7 driver for windows 7 64-bit rc1 (dated 3/19/2009). media center 7 works perfectly. can't say the same thing for wintv or mediaportal in 64-bit win7...

in vista 32-bit (my other pc), i used the hauppauge drivers 4.6 drivers.

If your card did the scan, but you don't see the digital channels in the guide:
After you set up your tunner as digital and Scan for channels:

Go to Tasks heading and select Settings, then TV, then Guide, then Edit Channels. Here is where I had all of my QAM channels from my scan. You have to check the box next to each channel for it to show in the guide. Then when you are watching a channel like 74.6 find out what it is, then select Guide on your remote, then info/more button, then you can go to Edit Channel, then Edit Listing. This is where you can assign it a listing, or merge it with an anolog channel listing.

That being said, my HVR-1600 is not getting the QAM, and I did the registry hack, the HCWclear, older drivers, and checked model number of card is capable. Not sure why mine wont work.
