    I installed office 2010 independent of 2007..Installed OK..but when I clcik on office docx or pptx files the system goes to reconfigure each time and gather info..then open the file..annoying..can I set the system default to say recognize 2010 as default..I need to keep 2007 until I am sure that 2010 is working Ok..add-ins etc.. Windows 7 64 bit..32 bit install

    Yes you can. The only condition is that you only have one version of outlook installed on your computer at a time.

    This works with Word 2007, I don't know about 2010 (not installed trial yet) but may be worth a go.
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options]
    "NoReReg"=dword:00000001
    The numbers 12.0 will need changing, I think it's 14.0 with Office 2010. Because of this it would be easier/safer/better to manually edit/add the registry entry.

    Hi
    I have both Office 2007 & 10 installed and both work OK on the same computer, and if you look at the bottom left hand corner of the pop up window that you get when you save a document in word using office 2010 there is a tick box to make office 10 compatible with all systems
