Can't open Office 2007 files with Office 2010! I now have a new problem, before I managed to open 2007 files by opening Office 2010 and then from inside the application choosing to open a file. The problem I have though is if I just try to open an Office 2007 file then I can't open it, and I can't change the default program to open it.
How do you get Office 2010 to open all the Office 2007 files such as word, excel etc?

LOL. Okay, lemme see if I can get my facts straight.
Find the file type you would like to associate with Office 2010. Right click file, OPEN WITH->CHOOSE DEFAULT PROGRAM->BROWSE (if necessary to find Office 2010 executable), and make sure the checkbox is selected to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file." | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell and Custom OS Systems 1 and 2: Windows 7 Enterprise x64, Win 8 Developer CPU System 1: i7 2600@3.4GHz, System 2: AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6G Motherboard System 1:Dell 06NWYK System 2: ASUS M5A97 AM3+ Memory System 1: 8GB System 2: 8GB Graphics Card System 1: ATI FirePro V4800 System 2: Radeon HD 6850 Sound Card System 1: onboard System 2: onboard Monitor(s) Displays System1: Viewsonic HDMI 24" Screen Resolution System 1: 1920x1080 System 2: 1920x1080 Case System 1: Dell System 2: Cooler Master Hard Drives System 1: Mirrored .5B drives System 2: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internet Speed 10 MBPS |

I have already tried to select Office 2010 but it wont let you do it for some strange reason. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 x64 ultimate CPU Intel Dual Core 2200 Motherboard Foxconn 45GM Memory 4GB RAM Graphics Card ATI Gigabyte 4350 Monitor(s) Displays HP 2009v Screen Resolution 1600 x 900 Keyboard Logiteck Illuminated Mouse MS Explorer Mouse PSU Corsair 400W CX PSU Case The thing that contains all the working parts of the PC? Try this.
Close all Microsoft Office Product (including Outlook).
Go to CONTROL PANEL, UNINSTALL, find MS Office 2010. RIGHT click on it and select CHANGE. Select REPAIR and let it run. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell and Custom OS Systems 1 and 2: Windows 7 Enterprise x64, Win 8 Developer CPU System 1: i7 2600@3.4GHz, System 2: AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6G Motherboard System 1:Dell 06NWYK System 2: ASUS M5A97 AM3+ Memory System 1: 8GB System 2: 8GB Graphics Card System 1: ATI FirePro V4800 System 2: Radeon HD 6850 Sound Card System 1: onboard System 2: onboard Monitor(s) Displays System1: Viewsonic HDMI 24" Screen Resolution System 1: 1920x1080 System 2: 1920x1080 Case System 1: Dell System 2: Cooler Master Hard Drives System 1: Mirrored .5B drives System 2: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internet Speed 10 MBPS |

word 2007 document can't be opened with word 2010 My documents were made thru word '07. When I tried to open my documents with word '10, it says ".doc is not a valid win32 application" while in fact it was done from 32bit. I tried opening it on a PC (OS Vista) with word '07 and it was a success. Is there a program or a patch needed for word '10 to open those documents? Looking forward for a solution of this concern. Thanks..! | My System Specs | | OS windows 7 home premium 32bit |

Check the File Block Settings in Trust Center for Word. File versions that are checked are blocked.
Open Word, click File, click Options, click Trust Center in the left column, then click Trust Center Settings in the right pane. Click File Block Settings in the left column. Here you will find all the file versions that Word can open and/or save. If the box is checked, that version is blocked. Check or un-check the files you use. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Built 2/11/2011 OS Windows 7 Pro-x64 CPU i7-2600 3.4GHz - 3.8GHz Turbo Motherboard Intel DH67BL-B3 Memory 8Gb - 2x4GB, Muskin 991770 PC3-1333 Graphics Card Integrated Intel HD 2000 Sound Card Integrated Intel 10.1 HD, RealTek ALC892 Monitor(s) Displays Asus LCD VH222H, Haier HL24XSL2a Screen Resolution 1920x1080, 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech EX100 Wireless Mouse Logitech EX100 Wireless PSU Seasonic 650W 80+ Gold Modular Case Rosewill Defender Cooling Stock CPU, Four 120mm case fans, PCH fan added Hard Drives Crucial C300-128Gb,

It is really directed at 2003 files, but the process may be the same (or similar) to converting 2007 files to 2010. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavillion dv5t (generation 1) OS Vista 64 bit and 32 bit (SP2) CPU Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.53 GHz Memory 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) Graphics Card 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT Monitor(s) Displays 15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescre Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Built-in HP Mouse Built in - Synaptics TouchPad V6.5 on PS/2 Port Hard Drives 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection Internet Speed Max Other Info ~ Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card w/Bluetooth ~ Blu-Ray ROM DVD+/-R/RW ~ Integ.
