    but i think i may have the same issues then, i suspect its something to do with permissions but i'm not sure how to configure those, i've tried but i may have made the problem worse!!

    What version of Microsoft Word are you running? 2003 or 2007?

    Hi Harvey, its 2007, i get the same error message when i try to open certain applications too.

    Are you sure it is 2007? With 2007, the orb should be there. Could it be 2010, which also has the ribbon, but has the new version of the file menu instead of the orb?

    Which applications specifically?
