Standard toolbar
Is there a way in Office products, Word 2010 and Excel 2010, in particular, to bring up the standard toolbar that I used to have in Office XP? I want to do this to use the My Places bar. Thanks.

You can buy a toolbar converter Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 - Shows Classic Menus and Toolbars of 2003 on Ribbon or why not get Office 2003 if you like Office XP interface. (you can run them side by side)
gogreen, do you mean the toolbar that floated on the desktop ?
if so, you can add the shortcuts to a folder, and add that folder as a new toolbar, on the bar next to the open applications (as in language bar etc..)
or you can try many free programs that offer it, as in "stardock"
i think they took it out in 2003, but for sure in the 2007 version.
the above are the work arounds.
i saw a while ago a registry hack that allowed you to put it back, but i don't recall where i saw it.

Too bad. The My Places Bar was an excellent time-saver. Now I have to wade through all sorts of file hierarchy to get to where I want to go. Can I customize the ribbon to achieve something similar? Thanks.
Bring Office 2003 Menus Back to 2010 with UBitMenu - How-To Geek
Try that and it may not work because you may have a 64-bit office
