can't turn off "Name Check" in Outlook 2010

How can I get Outlook to allow me to send an email to someone who is not in my address book? When I click Send, I get a dialog entitled "Check Names" with the message,

"Microsoft Outlook does not recognize [email address]."

I email a lot of people just once, and I do not want to have to enter these addresses in my Address Book.

I have looked and looked through the Options, and I can't find where to tell it to stop checking names. I have already unchecked both "Automatic name checking" and "Use Auto-Complete..."

It just astounds [and infuriates] me that I'm not being allowed to do a simple thing like address an email and send it.
