Windows 7 - Outlook 2010 new mail sound

Same problem here, seen in Office 2003 and now also in Office 2010 SP1 (on Windows 7 Ult x64, Office 2010 x86). I use a custom mail sound in Win sound config, but it's NOT played on new mails. I have both Exchange server and POP3 accounts defined, delivering all to the same Outlook folder.

When creating a new rule for incoming mails, then the sound will play, but still then not always .... So Office 2010 SP1 was supposed to fix this, but it does not apparently. Anyone ideas how to play the sound without creating rules?

Hello Vixer, welcome to Seven Forums.

Not sure if this helps, but here is an MS guide to New Mail Sound setting:
Change the sound played when an email message arrives - Outlook - Office.com

Hi Irene, thanks for the fast reply. Unfortunately, that setting was already set properly .... I linked a custom WAV. Well, it's solved (worked around) for now by using the 'incoming mail rule' in Outlook ,but odd that this would be necessary at all ....
