Outlook 2010 E-mail Hyperlinks Not Working

I receive a number of e-mails in Outlook 2010 in which the hyperlink to a Web site does not work. The link shows correctly, and when I mouse over it it shows the URL. However, when I click on the link nothing happens. Other e-mails I get seem to work fine. Any ideas on why some links don't work?

you may have to double click them or even hold control+ click sometimes. if you mouse-over it should tell you what to do to visit the site. If not

I have tried CTL-Click to no avail. When I mouse over the link it shows the URL and says Click Here, but nothing happens.

This is going to sound weird coming from a certified tech with a Bachelors Degree in Network Management but mouse over it and click it at least 6 or 7 times fast. I find that sometimes outlook doesnt open links on my clicks either and I usually just spaz out on it and click a bunch. If that doesnt work I will copy and paste into browser and then forget about it.

    Hi, kenburenga! :)

I've run into such an issue before when links in emails would not start. I fixed it by editing my registry, specifically the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\https\shell\open\ddeexec" and the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\shell\open\ddeexec" keys.

Deleting those keys and rebooting fixed the issue.

    I hope this helps.

As an aside, please don't mess with your registry unless you first back it up. :)

This happens to some folks after installing the Google Chrome browser. If that applies to you then do this and it should fix the problem.

    1 Remove Chrome

    2 Go to Mozilla

    3 Downloaded latest Firefox 3.6
4 Run Firefox and allow it to automatically make itself the default browser
5 Open Tools - Internet Options – Programs and make IE the default web browser
    6 Close IE
7 At this point you can either uninstall Firefox nor leave it in case you decide to use it at a later date
All your links should now work correctly.

With all due respect, Kipper, wouldn't it be easier to reset the appropriate keys as I described earlier?

My issue had nothing to do with installing Chrome as I've never installed it. Nor did kenburenga mention ever having done so.

It is entirely possible your method might work, but it seems to be a rather 'round about way of going about it.

Thats why I said "if that applies", I posted this fix just in case you had installed Chrome on your system.

    Sorry

My apologies, Kipper. I didn't mean to imply your solution was not a viable one. Mea culpa.

Hi, Metrowest08, Welcome to the Seven Forums. :)

If you referred to the link I presented above, you already used the program for editing the registry.

    Here's a bit more information.
Open the Registry Editor by clicking the Start button , typing regedit into the search box, and then pressing Enter.* If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
