    Viewing headers in an email

In Outlook 2010 under Help, I got the following information on how to view headers:

    1. Click the File tab.

    2. Click Properties.

    3. Internet Headers.

When I clicked the File tab I did not see Properties. So how do I view the headers in an email message?

If you click the little arrow next to "tags" on the message tab you can view the headers.

Thanks, John, I wasn't aware of that option. :)

Here is a great post by Dwarf regarding viewing headers in an email within Outlook 2010 without opening the email.

I use it regularly. Thanks, Dwarf!

On the message tab I found no arrow next to the "tags." The only arrow I found in the neighborhood is in the Follow Up box. I have Outlook 2010 as a stand-alone, not part of the Office suite. Perhaps this makes the difference.

    Hi, TommyO! :)

The arrow below the "Follow Up" box is the one to which z3r010 refers:

It is next to the "Tags" item at the bottom of that section. You have to open the email in order to see it. You can also use the method presented by Dwarf that I linked to above.

I'd like to solve this problem. First of all I don't have a Message tag. I have a Home tag instead. Then I have a box with Unread/Read Categorize Follow Up. Beneath this is Tags but no arrow where you indicate there should be one.

Do I have an eccentric version of Outlook 2010 or is there some way I can customize the ribbon to get the arrow?

One more thing. On the Send/Recieve tab there is a Download Headers box. With an mail open I clicked the button but if the headers were downloaded I couldn't find them.

As far as I am aware, headers are automatically downloaded. Read my post here again, and see if you're missing any steps.

As regards the option shown by John (z3r010), I don't have the message tab. The following is what my ribbon looks like:

I have the arrow under Quick Steps and clicking it gives more options for the items listed there. I notice from John's snip that he doesn't have Categorize showing between Unread/Read and Follow Up.

Guys, you have to open the email to see the "Message" tab.

Dwarf, I did what you suggested. Now I have the Message Options button. Clicking this give me the headers that I can print out if I need to. Thanks.
