Unable to Install office 2010

Hello all,
I am not able to install office 2010. It starts installing a after a while rolls back due to some error.
On searching, It was found that I need to install .Net 4.0. I started installing .Net 4.0 and even that would fail to Install.
On searching for the solution, it was mentioned I need to run sfc /scannow to check for corrupt system files.
When I try to run sfc, I get the error "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service".
I checked that I have the Windows module installer Service set to manual. I set it to automatic and tried. Same result. Rebooted the machine and set it to manual and tried. same result.

I even tried running sfc from safe mode and from the Repair option in the Windows Installer DVD.

My machine is amd 64 with Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
