    AVG PC Tune Up 2011

I use AVG for my anti-virus program and tried their PC Tune Up 2011. The first thing I noticed was all Office 2011 programs opened very slowly except for Outlook. It didn't open at all and I got a message saying it wasn't my default mail program. I checked and made it the default. It still wouldn't open. I got another message saying it was my MobilMe program so I disabled it. Outlook worked after that but I couldn't open .docx files that were attached to e-mail. I did a system restore back to Friday and all was well with Office 2011 again.

    Just a "heads up."

I wouldn't immediately use strong registry cleaners like AVG PC Tuneup. I tried it as well and so far I think it has slowed down my PC for a little bit so I did a few restorations with my backups. MS Office just installs a lot into the registry and its not surprising if registry cleaners would identify some of those as errors. Good job for having a restore point then.

    Vertex,

I learned long ago that restore point and back-up are my friends!

And I learned long ago that any program coming from AVG is not a friendly program, no matter how good it sells.

However, if you ask the guys that help with BSOD's, AVG is a stinker compared to other AV software.
    IMHO of course.

    Shock! Horror!
Even MSE has been involved in the occasional BSOD....

Odd, in six plus years of using AVG, I've experienced only one BSOD and that was the AVG error on an update which I posted about earlier this year.

AVG is rock solid, in my experience.
