    Outlook 2010 adding email address

Tried to send an email to a friend and noticed that they are no longer in the address book? So tried to re-enter them as a new contact. When I got to the email address block, I started to type in the email address and the old address showed up. I selected it and when I try to go to the next line, it disappears. Tried a save and close, the name shows up but no email address?? ARghhhh! Help please.

Try deleting his contact info and then re-adding it using clicking on the new items drop-down and then selecting 'contact'

This is exactly how I have been doing it. If I leave one letter out of the email address, it will add it to the contact list. Try to edit it later by adding the missing letter, it will not edit. Any other combination of letters in will add as expected but not the exact one. Its like it is blocked or something???

OK...did a desperation move. Exported my address book from my XP machine into a *.csv file, edited it in Excel and imported it into Outlook 2010, allowed duplicates, did some file maintenance and now everything is AOK ) Strange problem.
