Office 2007 problems and installation error

I am using windows 7 ultimate and Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise edition. My problem started about a week ago when every time i would start up Word, a window would pop up stating that it needed to configure the program. the computer would then hang up and i would have to end the task. I decided to uninstall office 2007 from the computer and reinstall, but when i went into the programs listing to uninstall it could not complete the process. I went in and deleted all of the files on my own at that point (probably not a smart move). After that i tried to reinstall Office 2007 and it would get about two thirds of the way through and then the window stating "installation error cannot complete setup". I tried several different time and the same error occurred. Can anyone help me with this issue? I have to have office on my computer and the last thing in the world i want to do is reformat!

thanks for any help!!

Can you check your Application event log for errors? Do you have enough disk space on the drive you're attempting to install office to?
