    Smaller word documents

I need to submit a resume in 2003 format (*.doc) but it must be less than 100kb). I cannot seem to reduce it below 127k. As a PDF, it is only around 70kb, but PDF format is not acceptable. Any suggestions on how to reduce my Word document?

    Hi,

Have you tried using a smaller font size? Do you have images in it?

If you want to, upload your CV/resume here, and I'll have a look at it for you.

I noticed that if I try to delete out some of the unused styles, that actually made the document bigger by several KB.

Also, a blank, new document is 26kb. Seems a lot for "nothing". Aside from that, I certainly only have 6kb of text (according to a notepad version).

I see that 2007 saves at about 1/2 the size of the 2003 version. Is there something about 2003 format that can be unloaded?

Ach! Found it! Thumbnails were on. That's about 70kb right there. So, in a way, you were right. It was just not the kind of image you might normally think of seeing.

Nice one - so you got it under the 100k limit?

Just for future reference, if you have a heavily edited document then Office will save all the stuff you've changed, deleted, or replaced on the chance you might need the "Undo" feature. Copying the text of the final version and pasting it into a new document might save you some space.

Hope you get the job! :)
