Outlook Rules and new Email address

I am changing my Internet company next week and this will mean I get a new set of email addresses that I can set up to my hearts desire in my new domain.

    Question is:

Will all my current rules apply to the mail I receive at present from different people after they have updated there info with my new address? Or will I have to delete the rules and start again as and when I receive the mails? I am thinking probably the latter will apply though

    TIA

You 'll be using the same version of Outlook with the new email address as well right? You could export the rules (Tools > Rule Wizard > Options > Export Rules) just in case it loses them. Then import them again later when you've got the new email address(es) set up.

    G'day Steve,

It depends on what rules you have setup. For example:

Rule 1 : delete all email from abcdef@zzz.com will still work as its independant of your email address.
Rule 2 : delete all email from abcdef@zzz.com AND if it's addressed to me will NOT work since there is now a dependance between the email originating from zzz.com AND your (old) email address.

Again, it all depends on how you set these rules up in the first place. As a rule of thumb, if the rules don't reference YOU (ie. your olld email address), then I don't see any reason why they would not run.

I agree with Morph666 : export your rules using the menu options he posted, just in case they go walkabout when you enable your new email account.

Post back here if you need more help with this.

    Regards,

As mentioned above, the rules are software driven to locate specific text or e-mail addresses. You can add as many new account addresses as you wish and the rules will still apply.

Well I will leave them in place and see what happens when I set the new account up, have all the info but can't set it up yet in Outlook as it won't let me connect to the outgoing server until the Internet is changed on Thursday.

Have exported all the rules in case as suggested.

Pretty much all my rules have only one objective and that it to direct them in to the folders of the senders instead of the generic inbox, so I can see at a glance that I got a mail from MR X or Mrs Y

Nice one - I don't think you will have any issues Steve. Let us know once you have transfered over in case you need any more help.
