    Office 2003

I have just changed to Win 7 Premium x64 and have installed my old Office 2003. Although Office 2003 all works it does not associate with the files e.g .xls files. If I double click on the .xls file instead of it taking me into Excel it asks me what I want to open the file with. If I click on 'Select program from list of installed programs' Excel is not one of those listed. This may have been dealt with before but I cannot find it. All that I can find is how to associate the file....but I can't associate it if the program is not there. How can I get Excel in the list of 'Open withs'.

Follow my posts here for Word.

MS Word not in default file associations list

If it works, lemme know, then we can do the same for the other missing associations.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'm afraid I'm not all clued up with 7 as I have been using XP for years.
I followed the instructions for winword /r but it comes up with 'Installation Error File not Found' looking for SKU11.CAB and then various other .CAB files after that. However coming out of that I modified the .doc in the registry and I have association between the .doc files and Word.......problem is I am not sure that I didn't have that previously. Should I try again with the .xls files and what do I need to type for them.

Hi, welcome to the forums :)

As well as the advice above, you may want to try the Open With context menu and skip to step 3 of the tutorial.
       Note
You will need to navigate to c:\program files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office(x) where x is the version number. You can then select Access, Excel, Word etc.
