    Problems uninstalling Microsoft Office suite

I unistalled Microsoft Office some time ago, but Windows 7 keeps trying to install updates for it. This is slowing shutdown and reboot considerably. How can I stop Windows from updating software which is no longer on the system?

Hi jcarr, which version of Microsoft Office did you remove? 2007 or 2010?

Here you will find some Office FIXIT Clean up tools from MS.

Set your updates to "Check for updates but let me decide whether to download and install them". That way you can "hide" unwanted updates. A pain maybe, but you don't want Auto Updates looking after your software drivers either.

Either this or disable Auto Updates and do it manually yourself.

    HTH.

Traces of the Office program must still remain.

Which version of MS Office did/do you have installed?

Thanks for the replies everyone. A trial version of MS office 2007 was loaded on the PC when purchased. The "Check for updates but let me decide whether to download and install them" looks like a good option to start with, I'll give it a try, thanks fimble.

Setting Windows update to notify me prior to downloading updates seems tp be working. Unchecking the numerous MS office updates has fixed the shutdown/reboot problems. Once rejected the updates haven't been coming back to nag me on subsequent reboots. Any further problems I'll try the removal procedures suggested by Irene and others. Thanks everyone.
