    Office 2010 options malfunctioning

    Transitioned from Office 2007 to Office 2010. Big mistaken and a waste of money! 2010 is full of unsolvable issues. In the last couple days, I cannot get any Office option changes to take. No problem a few days ago. I click on OK to save the changes and I get a message: "The server drafts location you entered for offline editing is not valid or you do not have permission to access that location. Specify a location on your local computer". Have no idea where that came from! I am a standalone computer and everything I do with my worksheets and docs is on one of my 4 harddrives. For two days now, I have researched and attempted numerous solutions, none of which fixed it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled half a dozen times to no avail. It is really going to be irritating when I find some little ole simple setting that solves the whole issue! Anyone have any suggestions because I am about ready to send 2010 to the scrap heap. Oh! I also started getting constant requests to update Excel worksheets links at the same time. The sheets are updating but I cannot get rid of the message popping up everytime I open a linkable sheet. Could stop that if I could get the options to take a change.

    Permissions

    Is it by chance that the directory you are trying to save to needs the permissions set?

    That Was Too Easy

    Open word or Excel and click on file, then options, then save and check where it is saving to.

    If it helps, here are my settings, perhaps you can replicate them using your own username...

    Snip, the Server drafts location box was blank so I entered C:\Users\Ron\My Documents, clicked ok. Opened the save tab and the box is blank again. Will not retain the info. Makes no difference which folder I browse to and select. It will disappear.

    Another Easy One

    Have you tried this.

    Control Panel > Programs and Features > (focus on Office and right click > select "change" > select "repair".

    If that doesn't fix it I would recommend a complete uninstall. By complete I mean let windows or Revo uninstall it. Then run one of these files to get the leftovers.

    cleanc2r.zip and/or ripoutoffice2007.zip and/or msicuu2.exe

    The msi file is an MS file and it will root out remants of installs. If you do this clean up the errant entry that is in your registry will probably get wiped. You should then be able to do an install with a clean slate. The above files can be found by doing a search on the web. I had to use the msi file when I installed on my rig.

    You could always check or add these manually to your registry and see if they stick that way. (It's the method I use to "save" my settings).

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Common\Offline\Options]
    "Local"=dword:00000001
    "Location"="C:\\Path to\\the location of\\SharePoint Drafts\\"

    Hammerhead, have reinstalled half dozen times to no avail BUT, I forgot about msicuu. Used it for years but slipped my mind this time. Problem solved! Thanks everybody for their help. Great Site!

    Rep button will not let me enter a comment so it won't accept the rep. Will try later.
