What causes a word doc to change to a .cts file?

Ok, I don't know why this happens....I have word documents saved on my computer on a few back up drives. I recently went to go into them and they are now .cts files. What could cause this and why?

I found that if I download and run Crazy Talk software, I can access them, well, from what I read on the internet. I am trying it out now.

No..none of them... until yesterday, when I downloaded Crazy Talk to try to open it up...which by the way, didn't work. It couldn't read it..and Clip Trakker is outdated now,
    Clip Trakker
ClipTrakker was discontinued in May 2009. Product support will be available for this product through April 2010.
    Thanks anyway....

    You could try performing this:
Default File Type Associations - Restore

However, before you do that - I presume that you have virus protection, with fully updated definitions?

As a precaution, you could download Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer and perform a full scan.

@Irene: Yes, I have updated virus protection and Malwarebytes too... I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes, both updated. I even took the file and moved it to another computer and still can't change it, or open it.....I have installed (as recommended from the Internet, that it can read it) Crazy Talk (CT)to try to open it too...I never used CT before...

Keep the info and ideas comming...Please!
