    Yes. I've not looked at the specs but I think the open docx is a subset of the ms docx, which being a proprietary spec ms is free to modify as it chooses.

    Yes, things would be so much simpler if more people used ODF as opposed to a prepriatery format.

    Simpler but ms has to have a competitive edge somewhere otherwise no one would pay their prices.

    True, many times the logical thing isn't the profitable thing. But I guess that's just the way it has to be.
