Just a drive by so I dont know if this has been tried

Reset Windows Updates Components by running the fixit tool and check if that helps resolve the issue.

Paulks, I am sure that you realise that we, at Seven Forums, are not or affiliated with MS.

You will see above that zigzag3143 has made a suggestion. Try it and post back.

If we can assist we will, but ultimately MS really need to resolve your problem. Have you tried contacting them again since the promise to call you back?

If Zigzag3143's suggestion doesn't help, though it should... I've got a long shot....question. In your op you state it is a system and/or software for, or belonging to, your daughter. Could it be that you have multiple users and that you have been mixing user accounts in which these updates hve been tried?
You wouldn't expect it to function differently but I have seen examples of different reactions in what we thought were identical admin user priviliges on two diff normal users.

One way to circumvent that and be sure is to enable a full admin user login and, using the advise and links given earlier, retry the install + update of Office.

Persist through Microsoft Support.

I have used this facility via "Remote Desktop" with an Office problem.
After the initial details were taken the Technician appointed was polite, efficient, fast & my problem was corrected.

From my experience I would recommend you persist.
