Can you please run a repair of Office?

    Repair Microsoft Office 2010

Then run a sfc scan on windows.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    Now, try installing sp1.

If you have the office 2010 disk and key handy, you can try uninstalling Office, rebooting, installing and activating, then running the sp1 installer.

If still no joy, enable windows installer logging (run sp1 after that) and we can see if there are any clues there.

The new log's file name is random, but begins with the letters "Msi" and end with a .log extension. To locate the Temp folder location, type the following line at a command prompt:

    cd %temp%
Its described in the MS support page linked on the vistax64 page.

hmmm, obviously that didn't work as I don't have anything like that, lots of opatchinstall logs but nothing beginning with Msi

Any errors, not necessarily starting with msi?

I guess it would be the opatchinstall.log files. I noticed most are sized either about 185 mb or about 962 mb. Suggest you open one of the 185 mb size files first and see if you can find the error line and code. Really annoying to go through all these hoops for a simple update install, I must say.
