Windows 7: Outlook 2010 won't open

Windows 7 64-bit. Outlook 2010 32-bit. Everything fully updated.

Just the other day, suddenly I could not open the outlook 2010 screen anymore.

That is: outlook starts, it can hear it does sync e-mail and it gives me calendar notices, but it just doesnt open the screen to do anything.

Followed all suggestions put forward on different sites, just as TorbjornK did.

I also used OfficeIns to disable all outlook related office add-ins.

Nothing works though.

Only thing that does make it open the screen is: start with: outlook /safe. But that is a limited environment. What is causing this?

Any other suggestions other than reinstall Windows 7, which I totally dont intend to do?

The problem doesnt seem to be that I cannot open a data file.
I removed all but one. And that didnt change a thing.

And when I start outlook with 'outlook /safe', so in safe mode, I can work with all data files and I have with no problem with them or the window at all.

But as said, safe mode is limited in functionality and in safe mode all add-ins will not work, nor will a number setting changes be remembered after exiting outlook. Also some registry settings will not be loaded at the start: e.g. I use the ForcePSTPath setting in the registry; in safe mode outlook doesnt seem to input that parameter from the registry, so I need to do a lot of clicking to add data files from my alternate data folder location. But once done, these data files work fine in safe mode.

Which raises my suspicion that the issue I have may be caused by a registry problem. I did clean the registry with ccleaner to see if that would be a medicine, but no it was not what the docter ordered. I did also try to delete my profile in the registry. But that didnt change a thing, except that I had to rebuild my profile from scratch and reconnect all my data files: a nice wasted hour of my time . (would there be a way to backup a profile from outlook without backing up the whole registry?)

OK, nice tool to backup profile (and lots more). Though not freeware and not willing to put in the $$ for this.

So with this its more comfortable to test removing accounts and datafiles. So removed all accounts but one and all data files. Created a new default data file and connected that to my account.
Also experimented deleting Outlook connectors under 'Programs and Features' in Control Panel.

But all to no avail: it didnt make any difference: I just dont get an Outlook window.
Nor is there an error msg or something else to understand what's going on.
Checked the event viewer, but no error/warning events logged by outlook.

Only starting in safe mode works. Very annoying.

Yes, tried that. Tried all the things suggested in this thread of the forum.
Though to no avail.
