Outlook 2010 - URLs no longer display as hyperlinks when reading mail

    ..
    RESOLVED: See second post, here.

    Original Post:
I have looked around a little, but haven't seen anything specifically about this particular problem.

    Windows 7 Enterprise x64
    Office 2010
    All latest MSUpdates, etc
This problem just started happening to me this afternoon.

Normally, when I open an e-mail that has a URL in it, Outlook displays that URL to me as a hyperlink. However, now they are just displaying as text, and to use them, I have to copy and paste into browser.

This is not an issue with hyperlinks not functioning properly. No error messages, nothing. The URLs simply aren't hyperlinks.

To be clear, the e-mails in question definitely have URLs that Outlook on another computer (at home) is still indeed displaying as hyperlinks....same e-mail....hyperlinks at home, but no longer here on my work computer.

I have not tried it yet on a different work computer (next step), but I did try it with a different 'profile' in Outlook, and got the same behavior (or lack of behavior).

It's not happening to all e-mails in all e-mail accounts. I have a bunch of e-mail accounts that I access through Outlook, and this problem is only happening to certain ones.

Example: I have at least 3 e-mail accounts on a single domain. This problem is happening to the e-mails in the inbox (and/or any other folder within that account) of two of these accounts, but not the other one.

Also, I notice that the e-mail messages this is happening to are all 'plain text'. However, nothing has changed about that. They have always been plain text, and the URLs have always displayed as hyperlinks.

Now, when I go back to look at e-mails with URLs that used to be hyperlinks (like, ones which I clicked on just earlier today), they are now all just text, and not hyperlinks anymore.

Does anyone have any idea what kind of setting may be involved (either on purpose by the AD admins through GPO, or by me when I was messing around)?

    I figured it out.....and yep....it was something I did.

    File
    Options
    Mail
    Editor Options
    AutoCorrect Options
    AutoFormat tab
    Replace
Internet and network paths with hyperlinks

For some reason, I was going through and turning off all kinds of autocorrect stuff (cause I hate that stuff), and didn't realize that this particular setting governed how e-mail gets displayed.

I thought since it was in the section called 'Editor Options' within the section called 'Compose messages', it was only relevant to what happens while composing new e-mails.

At any rate, I got it taken care of.

    Thanks pcmd.

Let me add to your solution, another tab in the AutoCorrect dialog box called "AutoFormat As You Type". There you'll see the same option "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks"
By checking that box (mine was unchecked), you get hyperlinks as you type them on the fly.
