How to fix Office 2010 Preview of JPG files I am running Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) with Service Pack 1 and Office 2010 Professional (32 bit). Before installing Windows 7 and Office 2010, I formatted my hard drive and did a clean install. I am having an issue with previewing JPG files within Outlook 2010 -- when I try to preview JPG files I get the following error message: “this file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it”. Of course if I double-click the JPG attachment, it instantly opens in Windows Photo Viewer. I can preview ALL other types of attachments within Outlook, just not JPG files. All the proper File Preview Options are selected under Trust Center\Attachment Handling\Attachment and Document Preview. I’ve seen countless people having similar issues but those issues are not being able to preview Office files and/or PDF files. I don’t have that problem; those files all preview perfectly for me… I just cannot preview JPG files. | My System Specs |

Hi sbearden, welcome to 7F!
Have you tried going to: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Associations
Scroll down to where .jpe, .jpeg, and .jpg, is listed, see if there is any default program listed for those files.
You can change it to what you want by double left clicking on .jpe, .jpeg, or .jpg, and a window will open to allow you to change the default to whatever picture or photo viewer/editor you may have installed. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway DX4831e (Mid-Tower Desktop) OS Win 7 Home Premium 64bit Ver 6.1.7600 Build 7601 - SP1 CPU Intel i3 530 2.93GHz, 2933MHz 2 Cores 4 Logical Processors Motherboard Gateway H57M01 133 megahertz Memory 6GB of 1,333MHz DDR3 SDRAM Graphics Card 32MB Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD IGChip Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Gateway HX2000 20inch TFT active matrix TN Screen Resolution 1600 x 900 x 59 hertz Keyboard MS 'Natural' Standard PS/2 Enhanced 101-102 Key Mouse Gateway USB wired optical PSU 300watts. I checked and they were already set to Windows Photo Viewer.
Thank you but that was not the issue; the issue is previewing a JPG attachment in the Reading Pane of Outlook | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 |

Jeez.....Why do you feel the need to shout?
This will be my last attempt, if this does not work I will ask for more help. Quote: i don't know why 64 bit machines are having so many issues with preview. Adobe had an issue and finally fixed it. Its generally an authentication issue. Try this and see if this works? Go to start, then run. Type dcomcnfg and push o.k. Component Services should come up.
Expand Component Services, click on Computers, then "Right click" on My Computer and go to "properties".
Click on Default Properties tab, and make sure the following is set:
Default Authentication Level: Should say Connect, not "None"
And Default Impersonation Level: SHould say Identify.
When those are set properly, hit o.k and turn on your protected mode back on your Office applications. Source, fourth post down here! Good morning. I didn't mean anything by using capital letters; sorry if it was interpreted as shouting I apologize. I checked those properties you mentioned above, but they were already set to the same values you recommended. Do you think it’s because I have a 64bit machine? It’s so odd that every attachment file type I preview within Outlook works flawlessly, except for JPG files… I just keep getting the message “this file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it”. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 |
