    Microsoft Power point not recognized by Win7

    I frequently get email attachments with the .pps suffix. I have power point installed but when I go to the file associations, .pps is not listed. How do I get it listed so I can set up the file association and see the ,pps files I get?

    I downloaded the link you gave me and I installed it. I get the following message; "Microsoft fixit does not apply to your operating system or application version". I am using Win7, home premium, 64 bit. Is there another version that will work?

    .pps file is 'powerpoint slideshow'--it should automatically open (in PowerPoint) by double clicking--after you download the 'attached' .pps file.

    also--you can change the file association for .pps files to open with
    'powerpoint'

    also--see this link:

    Here's another method then, save a .pps file to your desktop.
    Right click it, choose properties
    and where it says open with click the button and navigate to the powerpoint install directory to the powerpoint application and choose it.
    This should associate the filetype with the program the way you want.

    To Tman69. The basic problem is that .pps files are not listed in the file associations. How do I get that listed?
    To Maguscreed. I know I can save the file and open Power Point and open the file. However I would like to use the file associations to have any .pps file opened with Power Point. I cannot do this because .pps is not one of the options in my file association list.
    Is there any way to add this to the file association list?

    .pps is not a default Windows extension as you have found.

    This may help I'm not sure.> Default Programs - Associate a File Type or Protocol

    Read through Option Two and see if you can add it.

    Sorry I'm not an expert by far on this. It is what I found in our tutorials that may help.
    Good luck.

    I also posted for more help. Maybe one of our MS specialists will post.

    For Office 2010:

    Create a txt file. Paste the following in it
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.pps]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.pps\OpenWithList]
    "a"="POWERPNT.EXE"
    "MRUList"="a"
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.pps\OpenWithProgids]
    "PowerPoint.SlideShow.8"=hex(0):
    Save this file, then rename it's extension from New file.TXT to New file.REG
    Run that file.

    Or run the file from attachment.

    I copied and pasted the file you gave but when I ran it, I got the following message; "cannot import New file.reg. Error opening the file. There may be a disk or file system error."

    That is extremely strange. Try file in attachment (You can check out content beforehand in notepad, if you worried about that). What is you office version?
