Windows 7: Product key activation

I have sticker on the back of my laptop "windowa 7 home prem oa acer group".
There is a product key, but when i attempt to open my word software it keeps on asking to type the key. All my attempts have failed, i have the computer for quite some time now and use the word but this is quite a nuisance. Any suggestions?

The sticker on your laptop will be the product key for your OEM version of Windows, not Microsoft Office Word.

If you don't have a product key for Word you will most likely have to buy another one before you can use it.

Is it a version that came pre-installed with your computer? If so, it will most likely be a trial version and you will definitely have to buy a product key from the Microsoft Store to carry on using Word.

This is strange for two reasons- 1- The home premium as far as I remember was supposed to be a full version
2- more importantly, I can still work word excel etc, just exit the setup. BTW its 2007 home & student. Any significance here ?

I think you may be getting a tad confused.

I can only repeat that the Home Premium you mention refers to your Windows operating system, and that the product key on your computer case is for Windows and NOT Microsoft Office.

If your version of Office 2007 is a Home & Student version that was pre-installed on your computer, it is probably still a trial version, and if you don't have a product key for it, you will need to buy one to carry on using the software.

Very difficult to imagine that Office 2007 was pre-installed to a Windows 7 computer, which only came out in 2009?

In any case rather than buying a key you should consider ditching it for OpenOffice (free).
