MS Outlook 2007 crashes upon opening

I've just had this problem occur my new computer which is running Windows 7-64:
I have had no major problems with Outlook since I installed it a week ago (apart from a problem importing contacts which I have overcome).

Now suddenly, when I open MS Outlook it starts up with a different screen view to that which I had previously, and after about 5-10 seconds crashes with the message 'MS Office has stopped working.....Windows will close and notify you when a solution is available'.

I have tried system restore to no avail, and when I start it in Safe Mode it seems to operate OK.

Any ideas please?

basils57, I suggest you reinstall Outlook using the repair feature. Usually if things work fine in Safe mode then a driver has become corrupt. Outlook doesn't use drivers only hardware does. Check Device Manager to make sure your hardware is working correctly. Outlook screen view can be changed to be viewed how you like it so that's an easy fix. Let us know how things go.

How did you acquire your copy of Outlook 2007?

Is it part of the Microsoft Office suite or a standalone product.

If so, where did you buy it from?

The problem started 2 days ago, and it's a retail Office Professional 2007. I'll have to get back on where from.

When you installed Office, did you right-click the .exe file first and choose Run As Administrator?

Also, did you choose the Custom install option so that everything is installed?

Hi Everybody

Good news, it would appear that I've fixed the problem.
Working through 'Outlook doesn't start | howTo-Outlook' suggested by JMH I determined that it was an add-in that was affecting it, namely the Kaspersky Outlook Anti Spam Addin - mcouas.dll.

I've now disabled it and all seems fine. Being ignorant, what effect will this have on Kaspersky?

Once again folks, thank you for your assistance - it's been a great help, and tutorial!

Thanks for reporting back.
As I understand it the AV add ons in Mail Clients are not really necessary.
Keep it all under observation.
