Word 2002 in Office XP - compatibility mode?
Just got a new Windows 7 machine. Installed Word 2002 and Excel from my Office XP disks with no problem whatsoever. Once in a while text in my document will be highlighted and start flashing, and closing the document or stopping the program in task manager is the only thing that stops it. It might have to do with erroneous commands coming from my Dragon Naturally Speaking program, but I'm not sure.
Question: Is it likely that if I ran Word 2002 in Windows XP compatibility mode it might run a little better? I have Home Premium Windows 7 so I don't have the Windows XP MODE, but it's my understanding that I can run things in a compatibility mode, or are those the same things? I'm OK with it how it is but wouldn't mind eliminating this glitch.

The Service Packs are important to protect you from security issues, and I mentioned it because you hadn't said anything in your first post about whether or not you'd updated the software - if you''ve installed them from disk then there may still be numerous additional patches in Windows Update since it's a decade old office suite.
There is a thread about this in the Microsoft Answers archives:-
