    Office and licences

    Hi there,

Few years ago i bought Office Home and Student 2010. it came with 3 licences. On the back it says licenced for 3 pc's.

    Two questions:

    1) Im pretty sure I only ever installed it on my old vista machine, which I then subsequently converted to a dual boot w7 machine. I never actually installed it on the w7 boot though....so technically thats 1 licence on 1 pc right? I also installed it on my wifes laptop....so thats a total of 2 licences used up. Assuming im right about above, is there some programme or site microsoft has which can tell me how many of my liences ive used?

    2) ive just built a new pc and want to install office onto it. Will i find the answer out to Q1 the hard way by trying to register it and it failing (which it shouldnt as i think i have a licence left anyhow) or should i run some prog first to find out my situation?

    Thanks
    matt

    Hello Matt,

You might see if using VAMT at the link below may be able to tell you how many activations you have left.

However, activation works pretty much like it does for Windows. As long as you have it activated on only up to 3 computers at once and uninstalled from any others, then you are ok.

If it will not activate online, then you could use the phone activation method. :)

    Thanks Brink,

I just gritted my teeth and went for it. Activated just fine. I guess i had at least once licence left.

The trickier bit comes now...my old machine, which dual boots vista and w7, thats the one with office installed on just the vista partition. never did install it on w7

So now im rebuilding that machine for my wife and im going to clean install w7. logic tells me that becasue the machine hasnt changed motherboard that when i come to activate the licence for office in the clean w7 it will already be registered to that mobo serial number online and it should be fine...

    sound plausible?

You're welcome Matt. Yeah, you should be fine since it's on the same computer. :)
