Problems with cut and paste in Word 2003

All of the sudden, when I want to copy and paste something in the same document, the formatted text (whether that be a certain font or bold) does not transfer over to the pasted text. For instance, if I wanted to copy the following bolded word “word” and then paste it anywhere else in the document, I now get this: “word” (without the bold). This applies to other cutting and pasting problems: this applies to other fonts and formating (bold, my Greek font, etc).

One more example: before today, if I wanted to cut a text out of my New Testament Greek program right in the middle of a paragragh, the Greek font (or whatever font) would paste normally…no matter what font the target MS Word text was in.

What has happened? I have done no changes to Word 2003 that I know of.

    Thanks for any help.

*Are you in the habit of running "Registry cleaners?" (e.g., Registry Mechanic; System Mechanic; RegCure; RegClean Pro; Advanced SystemCare; AVG PC TuneUp; Norton Registry Cleaner; PCTools Optimiser; SpeedUpMyPC; CCleaner Registry Cleaner)

    * Have you a System Restore point created PRIOR to the problem appearing?
    If so try that.

    * As a troubleshooting step, start Word in Safe mode.
    Does the problem still occur?

    Getting into Windows Safe Mode

Start your computer in safe mode

Problems with cut and paste in Word 2003

    Dear JMH

    Thanks for your fast response.

Yes, I am in the habit of running Adv Syst Care and CCleaner. Could that be causing my problem? Is running these programs not a good thing? Just wondering why you asked the question.

I will try system restore point. But then, what should I look for or do? I am quite a novice on these things.

I can do Windows safe mode too. But then, again, what should I be looking for? What will that do?

    Thanks

Problems with cut and paste in Word 2003

    Dear JMH

I posted a response (with a few questions) about an hour ago concerning your kind help with my MS Word 2003 problems with Cut and Paste.

As you recommended, I started Win in Safe Mode and the problem DID NOT RETURN: Everything in cut and paste worked as always. Then, I shut down, restarted, and VOILA, all worked perfectly as always!!! How did simply getting into Safe Mode and then getting out of Safe Mode, do the trick????

Just wanted to let you know.

    Thanks for your help!!!

Problems with cut and paste in Word 2003: problem back

    Dear JMH

Well, my original problem is back!

Just to remind you what I did: "I started Win in Safe Mode and the problem DID NOT RETURN: Everything in cut and paste worked as always. Then, I shut down, restarted, and VOILA, all worked perfectly."

I have not turned off the computer since that time...not have I done anything else, except I did Malwarebytes free program. I don't see how that could be the problem.

This is so frustrating. I don't know if it is a Word problem (if so, should I reinstall Word?), a Windows problem, etc!

So, any help would be appreciated.

    1. Re running "Registry cleaners" (e.g., Registry Mechanic; System Mechanic; RegCure; RegClean Pro; Advanced SystemCare; AVG PC TuneUp; Norton Registry Cleaner; PCTools Optimiser; SpeedUpMyPC; CCleaner Registry Cleaner)

Current accepted wisdom with Win 7 is to NOT use a cleaner.

If you ever think your Registry needs to be cleaned, repaired, boosted, tuned-up, cured, tweaked, fixed, or optimized it shouldn't.

In other words, injudicious use of "Registry cleaners" CAN & DOES cause problems.

IMO - there is no reliable way for a third party program to know whether any particular key is invalid, redundant or neither.
Some registry cleaners may not know for sure whether a key is still being used by Windows or what detrimental effects removing it may have.
This has led to examples of registry cleaners causing loss of functionality and/or system instability.

Should you decide to go ahead -

    Make sure you have
    * a current System Restore point created.
    * a recent "Back up" of your computer- preferably to an external HD.
    2. I suggest you run System File Check. Option 2.
    Read the instructions carefully.
You may need to run it three times.
    Reboot.
Let us know the results please.

    Try Word again.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    3. FYI.
    System Restore information.

    System Restore

    4. If none of the above have worked...
    Try repair.
Go to Word > Help> Detect & Repair.

If you paste a large piece of text with tables, chapters, etc what happens?
    • all is converted to "standard text"? So ALL formatting (margins, numbering etc) is lost?
    • Every thing is there but is converted to destination's default style?

I am late on my response to your question because I was away without a computer for about 1 week. Here was your question:

Yes, this seems to be exactly what is happening! I am at a total loss on this.

Thanks for your time by the way!

Read How Paste Options works in Microsoft Word 2002 and 2003 | ShaunaKelly.com
    What does it do:
    • Use Destination Styles
    • Match Destination Formatting
    ???
you want Keep Source Formatting as default I assume?
