Microsoft Office 2010 saved files not showing the correct icons

Hello,

I have Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus and I keep getting this problem: My Office 2010 icons are not showing correctly; instead they show as the Office 2007 icons. I'm not talking about the actual executable files, I'm talking about saved documents, spreadsheets, presentations, etc. Now I found a way to fix this, by repairing Microsoft Office and it basically reinstalls itself. However, I have had to do this many times, probably at least 10 times. Does anyone know why this is ocurring and why I have to keep repairing Office? I would appreciate any help given.

Take a look at this A Microsoft Excel, Word or PowerPoint 2010 file does not open because of incorrect file associations and this thread Right click menu in Explorer (& desktop) missing new - Microsoft Answers for ideas. You may also try completely uninstalling and re-installing Office 2010.

Are you saving them as 2007 documents, or as the word documents for 2010? Are you editing previous 2007 documents? This is just a shot in the dark

yes, i saw you sitting here for a while.

edit: @Ymerejlaif could you post a snip of how your office icons look now? post a snip of the window where the files are saved, with one selected, so that the info is visible in the details pane. (check attachment)

Sure here is a screenshot of the office files. You can see in the taskbar that I have the Office 2010 shortcuts, and on the desktop there are a few files that have the wrong file icons. Also in the open window, there is a few more files that have the wrong icons. In the Details pane, it shows the wrong icon as well but above (in the area to open the document) you can see the Office 2010 icon and not the office 2007. I think I may just completely uninstall and reinstall, instead of repairing it.

EDIT: I am just saving them as 2010 files, not 2007, but really they are the same; The 2010 file is just a newer version of the .docx file format.

Y,

can you RIGHT-click the screen (like this):
Name:  s.png
Views: 2618
Size:  12.7 KB
...and select a different view? Is that the problem you are having? And even if it isn't, do the icons change to the newer look when they get bigger?

Uninstall and reinstall Office. Let us know how it goes.

Alright, that fixed the problem.... at least for now. Hopefully I don't have to do this again. Thanks for your help anyway though.
