    Outlook 2010 to Lotus Notes 8.5: winmail.dat

    Hi everyone,

I've recently run into a new problem at work and I just can't get around it, even after heavy searches.

We send out many and various emails to our stakeholders and we never have a problem. Our newest client has been having troubles, though, receiving anything from me via email.

All PDFs or Word .doc/x are rendered obsolete when I send any to him via email, as they always end up becoming neutered as winmail.dat file attachments.

My system at work: Lenovo ThinkCentre, e5800, Win7, MS Office 2010 and therefore, Outlook 2010. We run our systems via a remote server.

Client's system: WinXP, MS Office 2007, Lotus Notes 8.5. I am unsure if his system is running off a remote server setup.

Having read through articles on the subject today, all point out that recipient computers may not be equipped to receive Outlook Rich Text formatting. So I went to file, options and went to check if mine has as default Rich Text format. Mine, however, was already at HTML format. So I decided to change to Plain Text format and resent the files. The response came back in the negative, the files were still rendered obsolete as winmail.dat

Tonight after work, I searched a little bit more, and came across this article: E-mail properties for contact addresses in Outlook 2010 | MSOutlook.info

Will this work? Because it seems that when I went into the file > options menu, and changed the global setting to plain text format, nothing changed for my client.

Any help offered would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, again.

My apologies, everyone, but I must indulge your patience once more.

As in my original post, when I went into work today, I followed the link I gave above to test the solution. For that particular client, when choosing the outlook options as outlined in the link, instead of giving me the dialogue box to check whatever options I desire, it merely opens up another vCard with the client's email! I tried repeatedly to open the preferences option via the smart card option, but always to the same result. As a small test, I then decided to test it on a random client, and it worked!

Why won't it allow me to choose upon the client that I need but it allows me to use it upon a random client?

I wrote to our service desktop people this morning, but they've not replied, and I'm having to send out some important attachments to him tomorrow
