Am tidying up an old machine for friend who has the 2010 Home and Student disk at home with an activation code and cannot get the disk to me for a while.
Can someone please tell me can I download the 30 day trial and then if she phones me with that number / code activate with that number so that it becomes a full version.
I can do this with Kaspersky security I know but it would save a lot of waiting time to finish off the job for her.

I don't know if this will help or not but here's what happened to me. I had a trial version of Office 2007 installed on a machine running XP. I bought a separate Product Key Card through a local store. Activated without any problems. I later upgraded from XP to Windows 7 by doing a clean install. When I tried to reinstall / reactivate Office 2007 it wouldn't work. Microsoft claimed that once the PIN and Product Key were used they couldn't be used again. Something to do with the seller of the PKC receving a kickback percentage from Microsoft for selling the PKC. Anyway, Microsoft said I had to buy another PKC to reactivate Office 2007. Apparently it wasn't just one product - one machine, it was also one product - one operating system.
I have no idea if you'd be facing the same situation. So I provide this info just as a caution. Perhaps you can glean some additional info from this Microsoft Answers thread and a Microsoft Office support page for product keys.
Thanks marsmimar have got - the thing fixed now her daughter dropped the disk off for me on her way through to Sydney = she didn't think she was going trough until later in the week. .
But yeah I had similar problems when I changed hard drives in two machines and installed it on to a laptop and then onto it's replacement one and as the software was for three machines I guess that M$ saw it as me loading it onto four machines.
I fixed it that time with a phone call but have had more alerts since I changed all my HDD's to SSD's LOL!!
So I'll see you in the lock up!!LOL!!
