Windows 7: Unable to double click .dot files

Unable to double click .dot files

We have a user who has recently been upgraded from Office 2007 to Office 2010. They have a number of template .dot files which all other users are able to use fine in Office 2010.

For some reason since the upgrade she is unable to double click to create a new doc filed based on template. When you try nothing happens, no error etc, When I test right click - New, nothing happens, right click - open opens the template file successfully.

I have tried repairing office and reregistering word by winword.exe /r command. I have checked file association for .dot files and reassociated again. Still not working.

If she already has word open, then double clicking the .dot file will open as it is supposed to so we are using this as a quick workaround for now. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?
