Windows 7: Office 2010 apparently uninstalled by Revo

Office 2010 apparently uninstalled by Revo

I ran across an odd entry in Revo (free) for Social Contacts (long-winded name I can't remember), and I didn't want it as part of Office (which includes Visio and Project). Revo found over fifty thousand registry entries, which astounded me and took hours, but I stupidly let it delete the lot and now Office itself has vanished, leaving only three 2010 Tools (Digital Cert, Language, & Upload Center).

Revo has its own restore points, but it may be easier to reinstall if it will take the settings and data it had, although I suppose I would have to update if I did that.

Can anyone suggest a fix (and tell me what went wrong in the first place).

Revo should only be used for stubborn programs that leave files behind. I'd only use Revo to remove all of office, otherwise use the built in uninstaller.

First, make sure office is completely uninstalled. Then try to install it once more and enter the license key. Believe it or not, the built-in uninstaller has come a long way and is in fact much better than it used to be.

Only use Revo to completely remove programs. Partial removal is best done with the built-in uninstaller. Make sure Revo is updated. If you want to use Revo to remove a partial program, try Revo's 'safe mode' uninstall instead of 'advanced'. There is a chance it will remove the wrong items even in safe mode uninstall, but it decreases the risk.

Thank you for the help, but I am in a quandary.

Revo itself, even after refresh(es) shows Office (complete with Visio and Project and Outlook Connector) as still installed, but Windows (Programs) does not show it other than the Microsoft Office 2010 Tools reported in the post and Explorer cannot seem to find any program files for it.

Because Revo still displays it I can't help wondering whether or not Revo can restore it more easily than I can reinstall it. I certainly had no intention of uninstalling the whole kit and kaboodle.

This is all 32-bit, including Windows itself, I might add.

I never knew Revo had a restore point. Was it created because of the uninstall in windows, or by Revo itself?

Sure, go ahead and try restoring it, if that sounds easier to you. It doesn't sound easier to me, except for the fact that you would have to download office again via my prefered method. The reason I would uninstall it via revo, and try reinstalling again would be in case any complicating issues arise. Don't know if the restore will be successful.

Solved

Problem solved. You were close, but I learned an interesting lesson (which I should have known) in the process.

First I tried to restore using restore points, only to realize that there is only so much space allotted to restore data, and this was a sort of spring cleaning on an old and little-used machine. Revo creates a new restore point for each and every uninstall, so you should either increase the amount of storage available for restore points, or make lots of backups as you go if you are going to uninstall a lot of programs.

Then I tried to reinstall, and Office recognized itself and let me perform a repair, which required no license but did involve a lot of downloading. Visio and Project were separate repair installs as well.

Very good! Glad you got it working. The download method, in my mind, was the best option. Not sure how well a restore would work. Lucky it was only a repair
