What is the filetype of those PowerPoint presentations?
The power point that I've been trying to open is .pps and I have checked the file associations and .pps is associated with Microsoft's power point. I even tried to use Open Office's equivalent and it didn'r work either.
How are you trying to open them? Double click? Right click, Open?
To derekimo: I have used both double click and right click. To WHS: I recorded the file as it came in on Thunderbird and changed the suffix to ppt and when I tried to open it I got the message "this type of file cannot be opened by Power Point"
I had already set the association. In fact, I had changed it to see if Open Office would work, it didn't either.
What exactly happens when you try to open one?
Do you get any errors or messages?
Hello again, Bill. :)
I just came across this on the MozillaZine Knowledge Base:
Actions for attachment file types - MozillaZine Knowledge Base
Here is a quote from the troubleshooting section
(it's probably worth reading through the rest of the link, but I thought this might apply to your problem):
.
Removing all the settings for attachment-handling actions
If Thunderbird doesn't seem to be performing attachment-handling actions as it should, or if certain options are grayed out (not selectable) when they shouldn't be, and you can't resolve the issue as described above, it could be due to a corrupted "mimeTypes.rdf" file. Thunderbird uses this file to store your file-handling preferences for specified file types. Deleting it sometimes cures the problem. To do so:
- Exit Thunderbird if it is running.
- Recommended: make a temporary backup of your Thunderbird profile (or at least of the mimeTypes.rdf file).
- Delete mimeTypes.rdf from your Thunderbird profile folder.
- Restart Thunderbird to see if the problem has been fixed.
I'm beginning to think that I have a problem with my Power Point Reader. I went online and looked at some samples of Power Point presentations and I get an error message that I was not able tpo display the sample because my reader was not capable of displaying it. I'm going to download a newer version and see what happens. I'll let you know
