    enabling macros in Excel

to enable macros in Excel I have to go to Developer then enable macro.
Err message ordering me to exit the file, then re-enter it and repeat the "enabling" procedure. This does not always remedy the problem. I have to restart the computer... then go back to my Excel worksheet.

However, now even this doesn't work! Result: I am unable to use my macros.

I use a couple of macros but have never had a similar problem.

Are your macros in a "trusted location"?

Have you considered a repair install of Excel?

Have you considered a System Restore to a date before this trouble began?

I can't recall using "enable micro" in the Developer tab and don't even see that choice right now.

I assume you're having at least MS Office 2007 SP2 or later MS Office.
There should be no problem if save it as Macro-enabled workbook (.xlsm).
Yes you have to go to Option -> trust center -> trust center setting -> macro setting -> enable....
You can also add your file location as trusted location
