Windows 7: OUTLOOK 2013 -- cannot configure IMAP / POP3 wen away from home ISP

I had a problem with my RoadRunner POP3 (ISP) e-mail account, with Outlook 2003, that I tried to set up on a trip. As it turned out what I was using for User Name (just my name) was OK for a direct ISP connection, but on a remote connection it needed the complete e-mail user account name.

It seems they finally added the checkbox back in. I think it was in the latest service pack. What an unnecessary aggravation was this...

Maybe now I consider using Outlook for another year, before switching to Thunderbird.

Hi there
I tried a few weeks ago -- anyway I DON'T like office 2013 -- I hate the way for example EXCEL 2013 starts - it doesn't quite know if it's a Metro app or a desktop one -- total case of Schizophrenia !!.

Anyway thanks for all the replies -- gone back to Office 2010 -- and might change to thunderbird -- another good email client.

Cheers
jimbo

Correction, they added the checkbox again, but now it is grayed out. Way to go Microsoft...

I guess I will now stick to Thunderbird as my main client and use Outlook only for my saved PST files.

The check box, that you are referring to, is in all my Outlook 2013 installations and not grayed out.

Only for IMAP, and only when you're setting up accounts for the first time (i.e. not previously successfully tested).

What you say is not true in my installations.

Strange, are you sure that is not a re-opened account that was previously saved and successfully tested? (That is, you never clicked next on that screen and passed the test.)

Oh wait, it's only for IMAP, like I said. Your screenshot has POP selected.

Outlook 2010 cannot change POP3 account to IMAP
Hi all I haven't discovered a way yet of switching a POP3 account to IMAP without deleting and re-defining the email account in Outlook 2010. IMAP is a better way if you access the same email account from multiple machines. If the account was originally defined with POP3 there doesn't seem...
