2003 using 2007 Convert
This shouldn’t be too complicated however it evolved into an issue.
This is a small shop. I installed Microsoft Office 2003 on the XP Pro SP3 computers. I ran the Microsoft Office SP3. I then installed the FileFormatConvert to that the Office 2003 users can open Office 2007 XLSX files. On the first two computers after installing the Office SP3 and the Converter they users could open documents delivered by email in Office 2007 format. That little convert tool ran just before the documents would open.
Now on the other three computer I get “c:\documents and settings\user\docthis.xlsx is not a valid win32 application”.
On the computers that could open 2007 documents I took a look at Tools > Folder Options > File Types
I drilled down to the Excel extensions. The XLSX was associated with “….\office12\Moc.exe “1%”.
On the computers with inability to open the 2007 files I took a look at Tools > Folder Options > File Types and found that the XLSX was associated with ‘Excel 2003’ and that in the pane of the files types ‘Change’ and ‘Advanced’ were grayed out, disabled.
If I logged in as the administrator I could go to File Types … and in advanced map to “….office12\Moc.exe “1%”. And then exit and easily open the 2007 documents. However when I logged in as the end users I am in File Types … advanced –unable to map to “….office12\Moc.exe “1%”.
This area is disabled, grayed out.
Because File Types is disabled I am unable to effect the change.
On the local C drive, Explorer, and Program Files I gave for the end user Full Permissions -and eve n added Everyone with Full Permissions. That didn’t fix it. I don’t know how it is that on two computers installing the converter work perfectly and on the other four computers the converter give me a not valid 32 application.
Let me know what needs to be done to fix this ! Thanks…
