doc and xls Files Open Very Slowly after Coming out of Standby Mode

My Dell XPS M1530 laptop is running Win7 64-bit edition. After bringing the laptop out of standby (or Hibernate), it takes very long (up to 60 seconds) to open a simple doc or xls file. No issue opening pdf files. I am using Office 2003. If I log off and then log back into the desktop, the problem disappears. Any suggestions how to fix this w/o going through the logoff/on procedure?

I'm having the same issue with my Windows 7 64-bit Desktop PC. I'm not sure that my issue is related to awakening from Sleep mode yet.

The temporary fix is the same; when I logoff/on, the problem disappears.

My issue began sometime on 06/21/13 or within a day or that date. I checked my Windows Update History and the only update that I automatically installed was a Windows Defender update.

The issue is intermittent and doesn't seem to have a time pattern. When I logoff/on to clear the issue, I can run 7-10 days before it reappears or it can reappear sooner.
