Hyperlinks in Word Docs Stopped Working

When I click a hyperlink on any Word (2002) document, I get the following error:
"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer."

It happens only on Word documents, not excel, power point, Internet Explorer, Live Mail, etc
The hyperlinks themselves are valid and have worked for years. Suddenly, nothing. I can access the documents on my desktop from my laptop via the HomeGroup and they work from there.

(insert a thought) It just occurred to me .. this has been happening ever since I upgraded to Internet Explorer v. 10. That's the only real change in the system for weeks now, except I changed my virus checker from AVG to Avast. (end insert)

I've checked forums and everyone seems to think it has something to do with Outlook - but I do not use Outlook. Others believe that Chrome was loaded and later uninstalled, but I've kept away from Chrome altogether.

I would prefer to NOT mess with register keys if possible. Please fix for me.

Welcome to Seven Forums dennis brennan. Word 202 is not fully supported by Windows 7, and so most fixes will be geared towards XP. That said, and, yes, this is specifically for Outlook, try the Fixit for Windows 7 on this link. Even if it does not fix your problem, it will do no harm.

Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook

If no fix, what happens when you press Ctrl and click on the hyperlink?
