Linking to a URL in Powerpoint 2010
I am blown away that how, after many attempts to try to place a URL and link to a webpage in a PPT 2010 slide, I eventually had to GOOGLE the subject, after which I still am having trouble. I was pinching myself. Is this a bad dream? (I hear Mike Myers... it's not frikkin' Laserrrrr equipped shark, it's just a little earl...)
So I STILL haven't been able to link an object, like an inserted PNG file, to a web page, but...
with a text box, and I mean a single line, with no RETURNS
if you
It has a tendency to suck in whatever URL's in your active browser tab when you go to your browser to swipe and copy the URL you want. Is that supposed to be convenient?
- Select the text in your txt box, and then
- Right-click it and use Hyperlink, you can finally get something to SHOW UP in the "Text to display:" field.
- Then have your clipboard ready to paste the URL in from your webpage.
- Start your slide show (Shift + F5 from the current slide) to check it
The HARDEST PART to figure out is that it DOESN'T WORK until you start the slide show. So don't be thrown by that part. Hell, I was!
All the other stuff - Create New, Browse... in that silly window from the Hyperlink icon in the Insert toolbar... it's annoyingly hard to figure out.
And while my momentum is going on this rant here, it's also damn near impossible to find the "About..." to see which version of PPT I am running. I still haven't found it. Microsoft really bites sometimes. (I realize it's part of the MS Office bundle, but it would be nice to garner the version info from a convenient place in PPT rather than to have to go somewhere else to remind myself which version of Office is on this one of about 20 computers I touch regularly.)
