Linking to a URL in Powerpoint 2010

I am blown away that how, after many attempts to try to place a URL and link to a webpage in a PPT 2010 slide, I eventually had to GOOGLE the subject, after which I still am having trouble. I was pinching myself. Is this a bad dream? (I hear Mike Myers... it's not frikkin' Laserrrrr equipped shark, it's just a little earl...)

So I STILL haven't been able to link an object, like an inserted PNG file, to a web page, but...

with a text box, and I mean a single line, with no RETURNS
    if you

    1. Select the text in your txt box, and then
    2. Right-click it and use Hyperlink, you can finally get something to SHOW UP in the "Text to display:" field.
    3. Then have your clipboard ready to paste the URL in from your webpage.
    4. Start your slide show (Shift + F5 from the current slide) to check it
It has a tendency to suck in whatever URL's in your active browser tab when you go to your browser to swipe and copy the URL you want. Is that supposed to be convenient?

The HARDEST PART to figure out is that it DOESN'T WORK until you start the slide show. So don't be thrown by that part. Hell, I was!

All the other stuff - Create New, Browse... in that silly window from the Hyperlink icon in the Insert toolbar... it's annoyingly hard to figure out.

And while my momentum is going on this rant here, it's also damn near impossible to find the "About..." to see which version of PPT I am running. I still haven't found it. Microsoft really bites sometimes. (I realize it's part of the MS Office bundle, but it would be nice to garner the version info from a convenient place in PPT rather than to have to go somewhere else to remind myself which version of Office is on this one of about 20 computers I touch regularly.)

The Object icon - can you elaborate? That's not much to go on. But I tried anyway.

I tried linking to a URL file, one of those .website files that's created by dragging the URL icon in IE to a directory. It made an object in PPT but clicking on it did nothing when the slide show was running. Well that's not entirely true - it advanced to the next slide.

I created a txt file consisting entirely of http://www.nist.gov, and used Object to try and place it, or link to it, in the .ppt presentation so it would be clickable. Didn't work either.

If you think my 1- 2- 3- 4- step guide is confusing, why did you make an alternate suggestion with no explanation?

Sorry for being frank i thought you may of understood as there basic utilities.

OK so put your website, I will use google as an example.

you have Google then highlight the txt and right click. Click on "hyperlink".
Then add "www.google.co.uk" to the address and hit ok.
You can now click it (or at least you can inside the presentation)

    For your txt file:

The tags are: <a> in front of the link, and <a/> at the end. Just move the link to word pad, type the tags, copy and paste to powerpoint.

Whenever i have added a link via "Hyperlink" or an object/image and created a "hyperlink for it, It normally works.

for example instead of just Google put http:// or http:// as this turns it from a link to a hyperlink

so it looks like Google if you add an "s" https:// it just means its a secure hyperlink

You create links for objects/images the same way as you would a txt link either right click and if the option is not there it will be on the ribbon at the top.

If this doesn't help please contact me again. Your welcome to contact on here or on our website
