When outlook or word is open ->w7 x64 slow

    Hi!
I have office 2003 with the latest updates. When I start outlook, the program runs fine and every other programs opened too, but windows is reeeeealllly slow, it takes like 10 sec for the start menu to open for example. It looks like it's only outlook or word that is causing this problem. CPU usage is 1-2%, and RAM is 20%. If I close outlook/word, everything is back to normal, w7 is snappy etc.
    Any clues?
    Thanks!

Did you try to create a new profile in Outlook to see if it's not the .pst that is causing an issue?

Tried deleting the profile and making a new one without luck, w7 is slower than ever when outlook is open....
Maybe I should go with openoffice and evolution as my outlook client...

Funny you mention that, Outlook for me on Windows 7 x64 has an odd problem, every time I delete an e-mail message in the Inbox, it waits for about three seconds then deletes it. Maybe Windows Defender or another built-in anti-spyware application is working on the PST file? Just a thought.

Yea I've read a guy on another forum that disabled windows defender and it solved his problem, however, defender on my cpu is already disabled, I do have microsoft security essentials but disabling it doesn't change anything...Does it change something for you?
    Thanks for posting!

Well right now I don't have anything installed in regards to antivirus or firewall. In fact I disabled Defender and Windows Firewall and it still reacts slowly. Today I'm going to crawl through the Microsoft KB and look for some sort of patch for Office. As said, the only problem I have is sluggish performance in Outlook, deleting an e-mail is slow and scrolling through e-mails in the Inbox as well.

I will. I'm trying a variety of expirements because I have to use Outlook every day for what I'm doing and the temporary freeze is annoying. I'll let you know if I find anything that resolves the problem.
